President Joe Biden began his presidential term by doing the opposite of what he promised on the campaign trail.
Instead of a plan for COVID he told people the disease can’t be stopped by anything he can do in the near future. He simply increased the vaccination program that President Trump had already begun.
Instead of boosting the economy and his supposed Made in America plan, he killed the Keystone XL Pipeline and thousands of jobs.
Instead of respecting conservatives and those who didn’t vote for him, he set about forcing schools to let biological boys play in women’s sports and expanded abortion rules for federal funding of abortions overseas.
It’s no surprise then that people are wondering where Biden will go on gun control, an issue where he’s long sought to clamp down on the Second Amendment.
Let me put it another way: is Joe coming for your guns?
Talking ‘Gun Control’
The White House is reportedly in discussions with gun control groups as it works to draft a clear gun policy. Although he hasn’t announced specific proposals or executive orders on guns, the anniversary of Parkland, Florida’s 2018 shooting is coming up and it’s clear that Biden wants to do something.
His domestic policy adviser Susan Rice and public engagement director Cedric Richmond were Zooming with gun control groups this week and saying that they want to come up with some practical ways to crack down on gun violence.
The Democrat’s progressive base wants intense background checks and a government department which will make sure that current regulations are strictly abided by.
Trump on Gun Control
Although President Trump was a staunch defender of the Second Amendment, he did say he would be looking at safety steps after the Parkland massacre in confronting access to guns and gun violence. However he walked back some of these broader crackdown plans soon after, tempering his words and eventually not pursuing the measures he had suggested.
While campaigning, Biden made it clear that he wants to ban “assault weapons,” enhance background checks and bulk up law enforcement’s current ability to prosecute illegal weapons and gun violations and crimes.

Biden Curses Out Auto Worker
Biden famously cursed out a Michigan auto worker on the campaign trail who challenged him on his gun control plans. The man said Biden wants to take away people’s guns. Biden swore at the man saying that was a lie, but according to the National Rifle Association (NRA), Biden is quite likely to become “the most antigun president in American history.”
One hint at what could be coming up on guns is to look at Biden’s record. He passed the 1993 Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and a 10-year ban on “assault weapons” in 1994. These measures were not overly popular, however, and caused Democrats to lose various key seats in Congress.
So far Biden has rejected a mandatory buyback program but says he would support it being optional, but the fact that Biden said anti-gun extremist and failed candidate Beto O’Rourke would help make his gun policy raised a lot of eyebrows, considering O’Rourke wants to force people to turn in their guns.
Biden’s very uninformative Press Secretary Jen Psaki recently said that O’Rourke has no “official” job in the administration but wouldn’t go into more detail.
It’s clear that no matter what direction Biden goes, his push is going to be to get as much gun control as possible. With Democrats controlling Congress and the Executive, conservatives and gun rights advocates can only hope that the thin margins in Congress and the difficulty of sweeping executive orders on guns will stop Biden from overreaching his authority and trying to take more firearms out of the hands of law-abiding citizens.
