DeSantis Gains Ground Over Trump in New Poll

As Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ popularity and clout within the GOP grows, attacks from former President Trump are pouring in.

Despite zero provocation from DeSantis, Trump has taken to calling the Florida governor “Ron DeSanctimonious” and otherwise claiming credit for DeSantis’ own victory in the 2018 gubernatorial election.

What Trump hasn’t mentioned is the reality that DeSantis was reelected in Florida by a 20-point margin even without Trump’s endorsement.

Now, polling shows DeSantis is steadily gaining ground over Trump as the 2024 presidential election season gets closer, per Newsmax.

A New Poll For Conservatives to Be Aware of

According to YouGov, DeSantis edges out Trump 40.9% to 39.4% when it comes to support from registered GOP members. Furthermore, with Independents who lean Republican, DeSantis comes in at 42%, while the former president carries just 35%.

This polling tracks other data that has shown moderate declines in support for Trump in the 2024 presidential election; though at the same time, support for DeSantis has been on the rise.

If polling continues on its current trajectory, then the Florida governor will eventually make a total eclipse over the former president who’s taking unprovoked potshots against him.

Thus far, DeSantis has not confirmed that he’ll be running for president when the 2024 election season arrives. However, the Florida governor hasn’t ruled it out either. At this time, it’s anyone’s guess.

Trouble Ahead For Trump

During the midterm elections, the former president endorsed tons of candidates who ended up losing. Because of these losses, Democrats will have at least 50 Senate seats, and possibly 51 if Trump’s endorsee for Georgia Senate, Hershel Walker, ends up losing.

Because of this, some Republicans are saying it’s time for the party to distance itself from Trump. Others are calling for Trump to hold off on announcing any plans to run for president again until the Georgia runoff is over and done with.

Trump doesn’t seem to be taking any of this advice, however. On Tuesday, Trump is still scheduled to make an announcement that will presumably involve declaring his 2024 candidacy.

Furthermore, Trump has extended his unprovoked potshots beyond DeSantis, with some of the latest targeting Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin. Like DeSantis, Youngkin has said nothing about Trump; though this isn’t stopping the former president at all.

Unlike DeSantis, Youngkin also did not get Trump to rally for him during his gubernatorial election. In fact, part of what’s been credited to Youngkin’s success in winning the Virginia governor’s race is his decision to distance himself from Trump.

What do you think about new polling that shows DeSantis with notable leads over former President Trump? Do you believe DeSantis will end up running in the 2024 presidential election after all? Feel free to let us know your feedback in the comments area.
