On Tuesday night, Donald Trump announced that he is once again running for president in 2024.
Trump made this announcement despite Republicans asking him to hold off until after the Georgia runoffs are settled. There are real concerns that by announcing this early, Trump could energize voters to reelect Democrat Raphael Warnock, rather than send Republican Herschel Walker to the Senate.
Nevertheless, Trump made the decision to announce as much of the right-wing turns against him. Many donors are refusing to have anything to do with Trump.
At the same time, the former president has managed to turn off some of his own base, due to unprovoked attacks against Govs. Glenn Youngkin and Ron DeSantis, both of whom are Republicans.
Now, former aides of Trump are mocking the speech he delivered to announce his candidacy, per Washington Examiner.
Not the Greatest Speech
One senior official in the Trump administration weighed in on how the former president did when declaring himself as a 2024 presidential candidate. This official ripped the “rambling sob story” Trump relied upon, saying the GOP needs someone who is focused on the future.
Former Trump deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews likewise said that Trump’s speech on Tuesday night left much to be desired. Matthews said the former president lacked energy, inspiration, and the ability to excite the crowd.
This is one of the most low-energy, uninspiring speeches I’ve ever heard from Trump. Even the crowd seems bored. Not exactly what you want when announcing a presidential run.

Other former aides of the president ripped him publicly over disappointing midterm election results for Republicans. This, too, has been a key point that many in the GOP are raising objections about as far as Trump is concerned.
Former Trump strategic communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin also trashed Trump as unfit to be president again. Griffin likewise called for Republicans to “take [Trump] on.”
Who Else Will Run?
With Trump formally announcing his run for the White House, many Americans are now wondering whether or not Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will declare his candidacy.
Right now, it’s still very early. DeSantis just won reelection as the governor of Florida; though if he did choose to run in the 2024 presidential election, affirmative confirmation could very well come sometime next year.

Polls of the primary GOP race show that DeSantis is ahead of Trump in states like Texas, New Hampshire, Georgia, Iowa, and Florida. There is no denying that a seemingly growing portion of the GOP wants to move beyond Trump.
Many Republicans are also now warning that Trump is holding the Republican Party back and has the greatest likelihood of losing the 2024 general election to the Democrat Party.
