Former Democrat presidential candidate Andrew Yang is now running for Mayor of New York City.
A lot of the attacks against him have been based on the idea that he’s “not a real New Yorker” because he didn’t cast a vote in city elections and has another house further upstate.
Recently, Yang also said his favorite subway station is Times Square; this led to a lot of people making fun of Yang and saying he’s just pretending to be a New Yorker.
Flashback to 2000
Remember the 2000 Senate election? Why would you, right? Most people remember more about what happened in the presidential results with the election of George W. Bush over Al Gore.
However, there was one very interesting and relevant thing that happened on the Senate side of things.
First Lady Hillary Clinton became a senator for New York despite the small detail of, you know, not being from New York.
She’d started house hunting in 1999 and bought a place upstate in order to get residency, but she was far from some local New Yorker.
How often do you hear that complaint these days? Nobody cares, because she’s an establishment hack who plays the game; whereas Yang – for all his faults – at least says things that go against the trend sometimes and thinks for himself.
So what exactly is going on with the Yang race for mayor?

Yang’s Campaign Says He’s the Victim of Racism
According to Yang’s campaign, the real issue against him isn’t his naive comments about Times Square – which most natives avoid due to the heavy crowds – or his lack of local credentials.
It’s his race.
Alyssa Cass, the head of Yang’s communications team, says that it’s hard to ascertain whether Yang’s Asian American status or his 25-year residency in more offensive to his detractors.

Yang’s wife, Evelyn, said she was very offended by the “racist disfiguration” of her husband as a New York tourist. As she said, it’s “where I was born.” New York is also where Andrew lived for 25 years and were his sons were born; moreover, in the city of New York, 16% of residents are Asian. Meanwhile, anti-Asian hate is up by 900%.
Despite all the exaggeration around race and other issues, Yang’s wife actually has a good point.

Despite their constant fake concern over racism, the Democrats only care about power. Someone like Yang who doesn’t just say everything they want is not on their good boy list; so they go along with stereotypes of him as a non-New Yorker strange Asian man.
Also, when you look at Mayor Bill de Blasio and Michael Bloomberg, neither of them were from New York anyway; both came from Boston originally.
Sorry, Democrats: you’ll have to find a new angle to go after Andrew on this one.
