San Francisco is basically an example of what progressivism becomes once all opposition is gone.
The SF school board recently went on a renaming spree for their district schools, scrapping George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and others for supposedly being racist oppressors.
Now one of SF’s wonderful teachers has written an insane op-ed in the San Francisco Chronice claiming that Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is an example of subtle male dominance, White privilege and class advantage.
After the photo of Sanders sitting in his big mittens went viral, the teacher Ingrid Seyer-Ochi thought more about what it meant and decided that it would be the perfect example to talk about with her class on diversity and discrimination.
Because his mittens were a low-key symbol of racism.
Seriously.
‘I Puzzled and Fumed as an Individual’
Seyer-Ochi said she looked at the photo of Sanders in his large jacket and mittens and felt like it was important.
“I puzzled and fumed as an individual as I strove to be my best possible teacher. What did I see? What did I think my students should see? A wealthy, incredibly well-educated and -privileged white man, showing up for perhaps the most important ritual of the decade, in a puffy jacket and huge mittens.”
According to this ultra-progressive teacher, Sanders dressing in a casual and non-dressy way shows how privileged he is.
Wearing big mittens and clothes like that “manifests privilege, white privilege, male privilege and class privilege, in ways that my students could see and feel,” according to Seyer-Ochi who said she doesn’t know any “poor, or working class, or female, or struggling-to-be-taken-seriously folk who would show up at the inauguration of our 46th president dressed like Bernie.”
Most of Bernie’s family was murdered in the Holocaust. How is that white privilege?

The Privilege of a Paywall
The SF Chronicle story was up behind a paywall, which is quite a privilege in and of itself, but let’s talk about what this nutball teacher wrote. It’s important for several reasons.
One: overthinking and fake profundity. The left is always using lots of words and big advanced explanations to show how smart they are and how racist White people or those in power are on some big, evil level. They need to be called out on this. Seyer-Ochi isn’t “smart” for noticing that she could insult Sanders for dressing normally, she’s an absolute idiot.
Two: the privilege is hers. The only privilege here is a fake-smart liberal teacher getting to write offensive nonsense behind a paywall. If her message is so important and relevant to poor people and non-White people why make folks sign up and pay money to read it?
The fact that a major newspaper published her words is exactly the problem. It shows that other progressives also thought she had a point. None of them could wrap their head around the obvious fact that Sanders is a low-key guy who’s never stood on ceremony and dressed appropriately for the freezing weather.
Sorry it didn’t live up to her standards.
Sanders Privileged?
The conservative media has also gone after Sanders as privileged a few times for buying a house on the lake and having some money. The fact is that by the standards of someone who’s served in Congress as long as he has the man is not overly rich or privileged.
For someone who lost many family members in the Holocaust it must be quite strange to hear fellow progressives telling him he’s a privileged White male who needs to check his privilege. Sanders must have the patience of a monk, because many people wouldn’t stick by a movement that consistently treats them like dirt.
