ICE Bust Sabotaged From Inside

Two former Utah courthouse clerks allegedly snuck a handcuffed illegal immigrant out a back door to help him escape federal immigration agents — then flipped off a surveillance camera on the way out.

Story Highlights

  • Jennifer Joma, 27, and Lauren Kelsey Morrow, 26, were indicted on June 3, 2026, for helping an illegal immigrant escape U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at a Logan, Utah courthouse.
  • Prosecutors say the clerks used bolt cutters to remove the man’s handcuffs and drove him away from the courthouse in their vehicle.
  • Surveillance footage reportedly shows the clerks flipping off a camera as they led the man out through a maintenance exit.
  • A separate Utah couple — Kelzie Ryann Luna and George Sanchez-Juarez — also face federal charges for helping a different handcuffed suspect flee ICE custody.

What Prosecutors Say Happened

Federal prosecutors indicted Jennifer Joma and Lauren Kelsey Morrow on June 3, 2026, after they allegedly helped an illegal immigrant evade ICE agents inside a Logan, Utah courthouse. According to court documents, the two clerks led the man out through a maintenance exit rather than the main entrance. Surveillance cameras reportedly captured the clerks giving the camera the middle finger as they slipped away with the suspect. Both women are from Logan, Utah.

Prosecutors say Joma and Morrow didn’t stop there. They allegedly used bolt cutters to remove the man’s handcuffs after getting him out of the building. Then they drove him away in their vehicle. Federal charges include obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting. The case is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.

A Second Utah Couple Faces Similar Charges

Joma and Morrow are not the only ones facing federal heat in Utah. Kelzie Ryann Luna, 21, and George Sanchez-Juarez, 22, both of Salt Lake City, were charged on May 8, 2026, with helping a different handcuffed illegal immigrant escape ICE custody in their vehicle. Prosecutors called the pair “partners in crime.” Each faces one misdemeanor count of theft of U.S. property and one count of aiding and abetting a federal crime.

Legal Experts Warn More Arrests Could Come

A Utah criminal defense attorney told local media that these cases may just be the beginning. He said federal prosecutors could go after others who helped illegal immigrants avoid arrest. The warning signals that federal authorities are watching closely for anyone — including courthouse workers — who interferes with immigration enforcement operations. The attorney did not name specific targets but said the pattern of charges suggests a broader crackdown is underway.

This case comes at a time when obstruction of immigration enforcement is under a national spotlight. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently arrested a Milwaukee judge on similar charges — allegedly helping an undocumented migrant dodge federal agents. When courthouse employees use their access and positions of public trust to actively block law enforcement, it strikes at the core of the rule of law. These Utah cases send a clear message: no one is above the law, not even those who work inside the justice system.
